WHAT IS HOLISTIC COUNSELLING?
Holistic counselling recognises that healing happens across many interconnected layers of our lives.
Our emotions, thoughts, nervous system responses, relationships, family history and spiritual beliefs all influence how we experience the world.
Rather than focusing on only one aspect of healing, holistic counselling works with the whole person.
This approach is sometimes described as holistic therapy or spiritual counselling because emotional healing, nervous system regulation and spiritual meaning are deeply connected and intertwined in the therapeutic intervention.
Holistic Counselling Incorporates:
Emotional healing
Nervous system regulation
Relationship patterns
Inner child healing
Beliefs and mindset
Generational influences
Spiritual meaning & Soul healing

MY PHILOSOPHY OF HEALING
Healing rarely happens through a single pathway.
In this work we use both bottom-up and top-down approaches. Sometimes we work with the body and nervous system. At other times we work with beliefs, identity and emotional meaning.
Most healing unfolds through a combination of both.
different layers we may
explore together:
-
When someone has experienced trauma or long periods of stress the nervous system can become stuck in patterns of hyper-arousal or shutdown.
In these states insight alone is often not enough to create change.
Through bottom-up practices we work directly with the body and nervous system.
Somatic approaches may be used to help regulate the nervous system and restore a sense of internal safety.
As the nervous system begins to settle deeper emotional work often becomes more accessible.
-
Our nervous system responds not only to what is happening in the present moment but also to the beliefs and stories we hold about ourselves.
For example imagining a threat can activate the body in the same way as a real danger.
By exploring beliefs and identity we begin to change how the mind and body respond to life.
Many people discover that long-held beliefs about themselves were never truly theirs to begin with.
-
Our earliest relationships shape how we experience safety, connection and belonging.
Patterns such as people-pleasing, fear of abandonment, difficulty trusting others, or shutting down emotionally often develop in response to early relational experiences.
Through counselling we explore these patterns and begin developing healthier relational strategies.
This may include communication tools, emotional regulation skills, and strengthening boundaries.
-
Many emotional responses that arise in adulthood are connected to experiences that occurred when we were young.
Inner child work allows these younger parts of ourselves to be acknowledged and supported.
When these parts feel seen and cared for the protective behaviours (often known as self sabotage) built around them often begin to soften.
-
We are shaped not only by our own life experiences but also by the wider family systems we come from.
Sometimes patterns such as anxiety, relationship struggles, or feelings of carrying too much can be connected to dynamics that began long before us.
Through systemic exploration and constellation-informed processes these hidden dynamics can begin to surface.
When they are acknowledged with compassion and understanding something often begins to shift.
From a spiritual perspective this work may also involve reconnecting with the strength and wisdom that exists within our lineage.
Every session is shaped by what is most present for you in that moment.
When you arrive, either in person or online, we begin by taking a moment to settle into the space together.
There may be gentle music playing and we may take a few breaths to arrive before beginning.
From there we explore what is most alive for you that day.
Your needs, comfort and readiness always guide the pace of the work.
what happens during a session?

Inner child processes
Parts work
Nervous system regulation practices
EFT tapping
Creative & art therapy processes
Family and systemic constellations

WHAT MAKES IT SPIRITED HOLISTIC COUNSELLING?
Healing is rarely one-dimensional.
For many people there are also spiritual dimensions to their experience that deserve acknowledgement and respect.
Spirited Holistic Counselling creates space for these layers to be included when it feels supportive for you.
My approach is trauma-informed and grounded in therapeutic practice, while also allowing room for spiritual awareness and connection with supportive spiritual resources that exist beyond the thinking mind.
The counselling space itself is intentionally prepared. There is a small altar present in the room with candles and representations of the natural elements. This helps create a sense of grounding and presence for the work.
Before sessions I take time to connect inwardly with my own spiritual supports, including my ancestors, Soul and guides, so that I arrive resourced, centred and able to hold the space with clarity and care.
Within sessions, spiritual elements are never imposed. They are gently woven into the work when they resonate with the client and feel supportive for the healing process.
For some people this simply means acknowledging the deeper meaning or guidance present within their life experiences.
For others it may include working with symbolic or spiritual resources that strengthen inner safety, connection and personal power.
Spiritual resources that may be woven into sessions:
-
For many people, loved ones who have passed continue to hold an important place in their inner world.
If someone had a grandparent, elder or family member who offered safety and guidance during their life, we may sometimes include the presence of that person symbolically as a supportive resource within the work.
This can help strengthen feelings of safety, connection and belonging.
-
In many traditions animals represent qualities of strength, instinct and protection.
Working with a spirit or power animal can help someone access inner resources such as courage, clarity, grounding or resilience.
These symbols often emerge naturally through visualisation or imagination and can become powerful allies during personal growth.
-
Nature offers many grounding resources for healing.
The ocean, mountains, trees, fire, water and earth all carry symbolic and energetic qualities that can support the nervous system and strengthen a sense of stability and connection.
For some clients these elements become anchors that help them access calm, clarity and personal strength.
-
At times small ritual elements may be included within sessions.
This might involve lighting a candle, acknowledging an important transition, or setting a clear intention for a period of healing.
These practices are simple and respectful, and help mark moments of inner change or personal commitment.
“Rachel helped me to reframe some of my most challenging beliefs and improved my relationships with my family, partner and myself.”
- abby
Healing rarely happens in a single moment.
The patterns we carry often developed over many years and sometimes across generations. They were intelligent ways of adapting to the environments and relationships we experienced.
Because of this, meaningful healing is usually a gradual unfolding rather than an instant transformation.
As we work together, change tends to happen layer by layer.
Clients often begin to notice subtle shifts first. A little more clarity. A little more calm in situations that once felt overwhelming. A different response where an old pattern used to appear.
Over time these small shifts create deeper change.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE
-
From Overwhelm to Clarity & Connection
"After just three sessions, I gained a completely new perspective—one based on love and understanding rather than doubt and cynicism. Rachel helped me dismantle limiting beliefs, strengthen my relationships, and find real peace within myself."
-
Healing Inner Child & Family Dynamics
"Working with Rachel was insightful and illuminating. We explored long-established relational patterns, and the work we did on challenging my beliefs about my Dad was the most impactful. She helped me see things from a completely different perspective. Now, there’s more space and ease in that relationship."
-
Relationships & Boundaries
I realised it wasn’t about how others were treating me, but how I was treating myself. Rachel helped me see why I kept attracting the same kinds of relationships and struggling to set boundaries. Now, I no longer feel the need to fix others—I trust myself to express my needs or walk away when something isn’t right for me."
-
Releasing Grief & Mental Looping
"Seeing Rachel felt like being gifted an angel. I was in the grief of my breakup, stuck in deep-rooted beliefs that kept me in a loop. She helped me reframe these, reminding me that I didn’t need to move on just because I assumed my partner had. Her support made those painful weeks feel lighter—I felt truly seen, safe, and nurtured."

FAQs
-
Unlike traditional talk therapy, holistic counselling integrates mind, body, emotions, and spirit to facilitate deep and lasting change. This work doesn’t require digging endlessly into the past—instead, we focus on what’s happening for you right now and use that as a doorway into deeper transformation.
Some sessions may include somatic-based tools, creative therapy techniques (like art or clay work), or even shamanic processes that work on a deep Soul level. Every session is guided by your needs and what will serve your growth in the moment.
-
People are always curious about what happens in a session, and the answer is—it’s different every single time, and it’s different for every client.
Sessions are tailored to where you are at and what is most alive for you in that moment. Some sessions are deeply introspective, exploring subconscious beliefs and emotional patterns. Others are more practical—workshopping real-life challenges, navigating difficult conversations, or shifting limiting beliefs.
For some, spirituality is a key part of the work, and sessions may include oracle cards, ceremonial brews like cacao or blue lotus, or working with spirit allies for deeper healing. For others, it’s about talking through challenges, processing emotions, and integrating new perspectives.
-
We work with what is most alive for you in every session.
While we always hold space for your long-term goals, sessions will often shift focus based on what’s present in your life at that moment. If you originally came to work on self-worth but a relationship challenge or major trigger comes up that week, we follow that thread—because it’s all interconnected.
-
This is about optimisation, not just healing from the past or “fixing” something wrong with us.
Holistic counselling isn’t just for crisis moments—it’s about growth, clarity, and self-discovery. Many clients come to sessions simply feeling stuck, disconnected, or seeking deeper alignment in life. Or perhaps everything is great, and they are ready to step into a new unventured territory before, and it’s bringing up some fear and doubt, Whether you’re navigating relationships, personal patterns, or just wanting to understand yourself on a deeper level, this work meets you where you’re at.
-
There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The frequency of sessions depends on:
The pace and momentum you want to work at.
The level of support you feel you need.
Your personal goals and intentions for counselling.
Some clients come weekly when they are in a period of deep transformation. Others prefer fortnightly or monthly for steady progress and integration. Some simply book a session whenever they feel the call. You are always in control of your process.
-
No. This work meets you exactly where you are.
For some clients, spirituality is a key resource, and the work may include ritual, ceremony, or energetic practices. For others, it’s simply about emotional regulation, nervous system support, and practical mindset shifts.
Rachel’s role is not to impose a belief system, but to hold space for your unique path of healing and self-discovery.
-
Yes! Online sessions are just as powerful as in-person ones. If we are using creative therapy tools like art or clay work, you can either:
Receive a small creative therapy kit in the mail.
Gather simple materials like paper, plasticine, or crayons from a local store.
Even online, these tools help move beyond words and into deeper subconscious layers of healing.

If you're unsure about taking this step, here’s what past clients would say to a friend considering holistic counselling:
💬 “If you’re unsure about therapy, just know this—it’s nothing like what you expect. It’s safe, it’s empowering, and it’s incredibly freeing.”
💬 “You don’t have to wait months or years to see results—you’ll get them in your first session. That is powerful in itself.”
💬 “Most of the time, it doesn’t feel like counselling—more like an interesting conversation. But Rachel also holds space for anything that comes up. It’s a safe space to explore your inner world.”
💬 “This isn’t what you’d expect of when you think “counselling”—it’s about optimising your mindset and freeing yourself from conscious or unconscious blocks.”
