Why You Feel Resistance to Your Purpose (And What It Actually Means)

When you want to run from the very thing you know you’re here for…

By Rachel Rose – Holistic Counsellor & Shamanic Practitioner, Sunshine Coast & Online

Right before every single shamanic healing I give…
I think,

“I don’t want to do this.”

And if you’ve ever felt resistance to the very thing that feels bigger than you…
your calling, your soul work, the thing you know you’re here for…

this is for you.

Because that resistance?

It doesn’t always mean you’re off path.

Sometimes… it means you’re right on it.

Why do I feel resistance to my purpose?

If you’ve ever wondered:

  • why am I scared of my calling?

  • why do I avoid what I know I’m meant to do?

  • why does growth feel so uncomfortable?

There’s usually more going on than just fear.

Before a shamanic healing session, a few things happen for me.

First… my field starts to resonate with the client’s.

I can feel what’s there.
The entanglements.
The density.
The “fucking with” energy.

And honestly?

Any sane person would want to avoid that.

Sometimes my whole system just says… nope.
I don’t want to go near it.

Lucky for me, I have the tools.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not confronting.

When your work asks more of you than you feel ready for

The second thing is… this work feels big.

Bigger than me.
Bigger than my ancestors.

It feels like something I’m constantly being asked to step into more fully.

And that kind of expansion?

It’s not always comfortable.

Since stepping into shamanic healing, I’ve wanted to quit more times than I can count.

I’ve avoided it.
Complained about it.
Told clients I didn’t have availability when I did.

I’ve thought… this is too much. Too hard. Not worth it.

And yet.

After every single session…

I feel more like myself.

More connected.
More grounded.
Like I’ve come home to something real.

What resistance is actually pointing to

So what’s really going on?

When you’re being asked to step into who you truly are…
of course part of you wants to push it away.

Because stepping in means:

  • change

  • growth

  • seeing yourself clearly

  • noticing where you’re out of integrity

  • holding discomfort… consistently

It means living with a kind of mirror around you
that reflects back what you’d rather not see.

That’s not light, fluffy work.

That’s real work.

You’re not weak. You might just be under-resourced.

So if you’re resisting your path right now…

it doesn’t mean you’re lazy.
It doesn’t mean you’re not meant for it.

It might just mean…

your system doesn’t yet feel resourced enough
to hold the level of expansion you’re being asked to step into.

How to move forward without burning yourself out

So where do you go from here?

Not all in.
Not “burn your life down.”
Not forcing yourself into something your nervous system can’t hold.

Just 1%.

Lean in 1%.

Do one thing that stretches you.
One thing that aligns with what you know is true.
One thing your heart recognises.

That’s enough.

The path doesn’t need to be forced

If I had let my mind lead…

I would have quit halfway through my training.

But my heart knew.

This is home.

There’s something about being in sacred space
where you know who you are with a certainty you don’t feel anywhere else.

And to run from that…

would be the ultimate self-betrayal.

So don’t betray yourself.

Lean in 1%.

Then another.

Then another.

And one day you’ll look back and realise…

you didn’t force your becoming.

You allowed it.

1% at a time.

If this is where you are

If you feel the pull… but also the resistance
If you know there’s something more… but you keep avoiding it
If your nervous system says no… even when your soul says yes

You’re in the space between who you’ve been
and who you’re becoming.
